- Low-E and solar-control coatings improve thermal and UV performance
- Acoustic laminate interlayers inside a unit increase sound reduction (dB)
- Spacer and gas fills also affect the final result
For internal partitions, single glazing is common. Typical options range from 6 mm to 12 mm toughened. Many specialists prefer 6.8 mm to 10.8 mm laminate so that if a panel breaks the glass stays in the frame. Where higher acoustic performance is required on a partition, acoustic interlayer laminates (8.8 mm, 10.8 mm and similar) are available to increase the dB reduction.
Fire Ratings for Doors and Partitions
There is no simple one-size-fits-all fire rating. The correct product depends on where the glass is used, how it is framed, the size of the pane and the rating required for that part of the building. The same principles apply as for shop-fit work: confirm the required rating and application first, then the glass specification follows.
