Typical Specification for Pond Viewing Windows
From the work we supply, pond viewing panels are consistently ordered as toughened laminated, starting at around 21.5 mm and going thicker as size and depth increase. The final make-up is determined by the fabricator or designer based on the water depth and panel dimensions.
Low-iron glass is frequently specified so the view of the fish is as clear and colour-true as possible.
Jump guards sit above the waterline and take a different spec. They are nearly always 10 mm toughened, not toughened laminated. Do not order laminated for a jump guard unless the fabricator has specifically asked for it.
What We Do and Do Not Calculate
We do not calculate water pressure or structural thickness for pond applications. That responsibility sits with the specialist installer or pond fabricator. Once they have determined the required glass specification (thickness, laminate make-up, low-iron, edgework), we cut and supply to that specification.
Seals and Chemical Resistance
Seal design and any chemical resistance requirements (pond treatments, etc.) are part of the fabricator’s system design. We supply the glass; the sealing and installation method is their responsibility.
